Insight
Show a topic you actually lose time to. Give one instance of going further than the assignment, who or what you turn to when you want to learn more, and a question you still cannot answer. A list of favorite subjects does not show the losing track of time.
When to use this. Common App prompt 6 (2026–2027): “Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?” 250–650 words.
Guidance
- Name the topic in plain language.
- Tell one session, project, or rabbit hole with enough detail that the hours are believable.
- Name the person, book, dataset, or place you go to next.
- End on a live question, not on “and that is why I want to attend your college,” unless the form is a supplement.

Optional. Copy this into ChatGPT or a similar tool if you want a first draft. Replace the [PASTE] sections with your own material. The work stays in that tool; we do not save it here.

Rules: Do not invent employers, job titles, dates, metrics, team sizes, or outcomes. If something is missing, ask me or write [unknown]. Keep hedges such as "approximately" and "more than" exactly as I stated them. Never turn a qualitative result into a number. Reshape one real incident into an essay draft. Use only the notes I paste. If a fact is missing, write [unknown] or ask me. Do not add a school, activity, metric, or outcome I did not state. One scene. First person. Keep my part visible. This is the intellectual-curiosity essay. One topic, why it holds me, a concrete instance, and who or what I turn to in order to learn more. Leave a real question open. Do not add a college name unless I supplied one. Word limit: [PASTE] Incident or parable (situation, what I was responsible for, what I did, the result, what I learned, what I did differently later): [PASTE] School, sponsor, or program, only if this answer must name one: [PASTE OR LEAVE BLANK]
